Another busy weekend for Wilford

Last Saturday at Lilleshall in Shropshire Henry shot 1191 for a Metric 2 in very windy conditions to finish 9th out of 35, it was also a personal best (PB) score for Henry. Sarah also shot put in a PB for the Metric 2.

And then on Sunday at Lilleshall it was the Junior National Championships, where Henry finished 8th with yet another PB and his second Junior Master Bowmen (JMB) score and he beat 2 of the GB Academy students). Tobias was 6th in the Under12 category, also with a PB and his third JMB score. Sarah also had a good day with yet another PB.

While the action was taking place at Lilleshall, seven members were shooting at Sherwood Archers, where Lois and Rochelle were 1st and third respectively. The adults had a good time.

Back to Sherwood Archers on Saturday for the Golden Arrow and Sunday for the Oregon.

Busy, busy, busy

Busy, busy, busy

Its been very busy at Wilford Bowmen lately. Firstly we hosted a World Record Status competition on 22nd May, which was well attended (see previous post). Immediately after that we were helping all week at the European Archery Championships at the University Sports field on University Boulevard, with the exciting finals in the Old Market Square. As well as that we had a good turnout at the Welbeck York/Hereford on Sunday (which was also a County team selection shoot) where several members shot well and won medals.

And then next weekend there’s the Big Archery Weekend in the Walled Garden on Saturday 4th June, another County team selection shoot at Sherwood Archers on 5th June followed by the Golden Arrow and the Oregon and Notts League the following weekend.

Results Wilford’s Double WRS 720 22 May 2016

Here are the results from the double World Record Status 720 round that we hosted on 22nd May Results Wilford WRS Double 720 22May2016

We all worked well together, especially considering that we had a tight schedule for setting up and managed to get it all done in just over an hour and a half, due to the good turnout at that uncivilised hour, and it was something that many members had not experienced before. It was not something that we could have achieved a few years ago and shows how the club has developed in event years. Many hands …

There were some of the top UK archers taking part as well as a member of the Zimbabwe Olympic team. Several of the archers taking part in the European champs on the University Sports Ground came to have a look at our shoot. Competitors travelled significant distances to take part, from Exmouth, Worthing, Reading, Ipswich, Manchester and Yorkshire to list a few of the further places. Many of the competitors that are relatively local have visited us before, but a significant number were new to us and are likely to return. All in all we have raised our profile and reputation significantly, by running a world record status event to a high standard. The weather did help.

There have been a lot of positive comments, well done everybody.
