We had a good turnout and were well represented in the awards, including 1st lady -Sallie, 2nd lady -Emma. Henry, Tobias and Lois all won their age groups and we won the team trophy. Well done also to Mattia who shot another Bowman score.
Back to Sherwood Archers on Saturday for the Golden Arrow and Sunday for the Oregon.
Busy, busy, busy
Well, it was only a day actually, due to the availability of the Walled Garden. There was steady stream of people wanting to try archery and plenty of interest. More details at the new Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Wilfordbowmen/.
Its been very busy at Wilford Bowmen lately. Firstly we hosted a World Record Status competition on 22nd May, which was well attended (see previous post). Immediately after that we were helping all week at the European Archery Championships at the University Sports field on University Boulevard, with the exciting finals in the Old Market Square. As well as that we had a good turnout at the Welbeck York/Hereford on Sunday (which was also a County team selection shoot) where several members shot well and won medals.
And then next weekend there’s the Big Archery Weekend in the Walled Garden on Saturday 4th June, another County team selection shoot at Sherwood Archers on 5th June followed by the Golden Arrow and the Oregon and Notts League the following weekend.
Here are the results from the double World Record Status 720 round that we hosted on 22nd May Results Wilford WRS Double 720 22May2016
There were some of the top UK archers taking part as well as a member of the Zimbabwe Olympic team. Several of the archers taking part in the European champs on the University Sports Ground came to have a look at our shoot. Competitors travelled significant distances to take part, from Exmouth, Worthing, Reading, Ipswich, Manchester and Yorkshire to list a few of the further places. Many of the competitors that are relatively local have visited us before, but a significant number were new to us and are likely to return. All in all we have raised our profile and reputation significantly, by running a world record status event to a high standard. The weather did help.
The provisional target list for our double WRS 720 shoot on 22nd May at Nottingham Hockey Centre is now available: Provisional target list Wilford WRS double 720 22May2016
The dates for the June beginner’s course have been changed due partly to the Big Archery Weekend on 4th and 5th June. The course will now run on June 18th, 25th, July 2nd and 9th.
Now that the clocks have changed, we’re now into the summer schedule, with club sessions on Wednesday and Friday evenings (depending on the weather of course) usually from about 5pm, possibly earlier depending on when keyholders can get there. This is in addition to the informal and coaching sessions on Saturday mornings and the formal club sessions on Sunday mornings when shooting starts at 11am.
We held the annual birthday shoot today along with the usual fuddle for the club competitions. There was a record turnout for a club session with 34 members shooting Warwick rounds. It shows just how the club has grown over the past here years. There were several personal bests, but as the overall result was determined on handicap it was open to anybody that shot well. The top four (in no particular order) were Andy W, Eleanor, Laura and Holly. The final result will be announced at the AGM. What’s more the weather was calm, warm and sunny, just like it should be – ideal shooting conditions.
