May tournament has been granted world record status

The European Championships will be held in Nottingham in May 2016, on the University part of Highfields.

As part of the preparations, ArcheryGB asked us if we would run our May shoot as a test event, which we were pleased to do.

What this all means is that our shoot in May, will be a World Archery 1440* World Record status competition, and run as an international event with electronic timing, tablet PCs for the running scores and marquees for the competitors.

We are now working with ArcheryGB and Nottingham City Council to get this prestigious event organised, so that everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Final Notts league shoot.

Last Sunday we hosted the third and final Notts League shoot that was rescheduled from 10th August when the tail of tropical storm Bertha came through along with heavy rain. By contrast Sunday 24th was a dry, calm day allowing for a good day’s shooting. Numbers were down compared to the original date, but we still had a field of twenty two targets. Everything went very smoothly.

Wilford junior teams were first and second and Mimi Tien and Henry Tien won the respective junior sections. (Just need to get the adults shooting better!)

Thank you to everyone who helped, especially the work party who were at the ground at 7 am on Sunday.

Busy at Wilford Bowmen

Last weekend was busy, we provided all the bosses, stands etc for use at the Junior Masters shoot on the University ground at Highfields. It all went very smoothly and ArcheryGB have thanked us and the club members who helped – Sharon and Mike Sanchez and Kevin Salmon.

Mimi Tien shot in the Junior Masters having gained her Junior Master Bowmen earlier this year. She did really well in the ranking round in the morning finishing 15th. In the head to head sessions, she was narrowly knocked out early on by a more experienced archer. Good experience for the future, well done Mimi.

On the same day at Loscoe in Derbyshire Sallie Kirk and Steve Attwood were shooting for Notts against Derbyshire and Warwickshire. Conditions were tricky with a difficult wind and scores were lower all round. Despite being one team member short, Notts recurve team were a creditable second.

The activity continues this weekend as we are hosting the third and final leg of the Notts inter club league which growing in popularity. This means an early start in order to get the equipment set up. And it looks like we will have deal with the remnants of hurricane Bertha.

Wilford juniors in action at the EMAS inter county challenge

Well done to Mimi Tien, Sarah Humphries, Henry Tien and Arjun Narula who all shot well in a tricky wind at the East Midlands junior inter county challenge last Sunday. Despite this Nottinghamshire were fourth overall. Both Mimi and Henry got the highest scores overall on the day.
