Wonderful sunny weekend in York for Notts archers, where members from Wilford Bowmen and Bramcote took part in a Double WA1440 and Double AGB Metrics organised by York Archers Society. Started with Anna helping present flowers to the Civic Party (which included the Mayor and Sheriff). It was a long 2 days, but inspired efforts led to awards for Anna, Eleanor, and Jav, plus Thomas and Nigel from Bramcote, not to mention several personal best scores.

Fantastic performance by our junior archers
Our junior recurve archers did really well at yesterday’s Sidney Bond inter counties tournament. Teams from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire and Rutland were competing. Nottinghamshire recurves won for th first time in seventeen years and with the second highest score since the tournament started in 1981. Of the eight members of the team, six were from Wilford: Tobias, Eleanor, Lois, Anna, Henry and Poppy. Charlotte coaches all the recurve team, so she’s really pleased with how they all shot in the variable conditions.
Woop, woop
Yet another busy and successful weekend for Wilford Bowmen. The main event was the National weekend at Lilleshall in Shropshire. On Saturday in the Metric rounds, Poppy was narrowly beaten into 4th place, in what was her first national tournament. On Sunday Tobias was 3rd, Poppy was 7th, Lois was 12th and Henry was 15th. All shot well with several personal bests and Junior Master Bowmen qualifying scores.
Its great to see so many taking part at this level.
Meanwhile nearer to home, at the Sherwood Archers competition in Southwell, Will was 1st, Charlotte C was 3rd recurve lady and Mike T was 3rd compound gent.
Well done everyone.
A great day for Wilford at the Oregon
Today at Sherwood Archers was the second and final leg of the Oregon challenge against Sylvan Archers club in Oregon, USA.
Steve Attwood, Emma Thomason, Jamie Gordon and Ben Viney made up half of the recurve team. Mike Thomason was in the compound team. Adam Dewsbury was in the Masters Recurve team. Henry Tien, Sarah Humphries and Tobias Tien were in the junior recurve team of four archers.
Well done everyone.
As well as that Steve was presented with a birthday cake for his 60th birthday.
Team Wilford win again.
Well done to Sharon, Charlotte C, Jav and Ben, who won the team trophy at the Nottinghamshire Golden Arrow yesterday.
Target list for 21st May
The provisional target list for Sunday’s shoot is here.
Busy, busy, busy
May is always a busy month for us. Right at the start of the month there was the Have a go weekend, the following weekend it was the first leg of the Notts League, a relaxed and informal shoot, where we had 20 members shooting. We weren’t quite the largest club, but we made our presence known with some good scores and a couple of six gold ends. This puts us in a good position for the second leg at Sherwood Archers on 11th June.
Last weekend we held the first of the postal summer league shoots in wonderful weather with 28 archers shooting accompanied by the customary fuddle.
This weekend we are hosting our annual World Record Status competition at Nottingham Hockey Club at Highfields, which will mean an early start for the work party and a long day for those competing as well. Its a key event in the local calendar, as well as being one of the selection shoots for the County Team. We normally run a very good shoot and this year should be no exception. At the moment the weather forecast looks to be favourable. Lets hope it stays that way.
And then to round off the month, there’s a Have a Go on Saturday 27th and another selection shoot and match against Leics on 28th, which a good number of members will be participating in.
May Day Bank Holiday “Have a Go”
I would like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers that turned out to help with the HAG this weekend.
We had a fun time showing the visitors of Wollaton Park the joys of a archery and we have had several enquiries for potential new club members.
There has been some learning from the event which we hope to implement on future HAGs. Here’s looking forward to the next one…
thanks again.

Wonderful day for Wilford Bowmen
The red shirts were out in force today, at the Bingham Western. We had eight archers shooting, for three of them it was their first competition.
The weather was kind, sunny all day with a tricky breeze. We were well placed in the results Will was first junior (and a potential county record) and Peter was third. Great results for their first tournament. Steve was first gent recurve, Mike T was second gent compound and Sharon was 3rd recurve lady. Ben shot a much improved score. It’s great that the winter training is paying off.
On top of that we did well in the raffle too, with Mike T, Sharon, Peter and Steve all winning prizes.
Yeeehaaa!
Sunny Saturday training session
21 archers looking to improve were at this morning’s training session. Sunny, warm and calm. Great conditions for shooting.
The weather even stayed fine for the beginners course in the afternoon.
