Tri County match 2nd August
Emma and Steve were part of the Nottinghamshire team that took on Derbyshire and Warwickshire at Burton Joyce last Sunday. Conditions were good although there was a tricky breeze in the afternoon. Despite our best efforts Nottinghamshire didn’t win.
Road works on University Boulevard – allow extra time
There are further tram related road works taking place at the junction of University Boulevard and Queens Road. These will still be in place on 9th August when we are hosting the third and final leg of the Notts League.
Please be prepared for delays and leave extra time if you are coming to the League.
Club practice sessions are now back at the Walled Garden in Wollaton.
A busy weekend for Wilford
First of all four members were shooting the Record Status shoot at Belvoir Archers on Saturday. The weather wasn’t too bad with just a breezy following wind. A good time was had by all. Mattia was 1st compound and Steve was 2nd recurve.
On Sunday all our juniors were shooting for Nottinghamshire in the Sydney Bond Trophy in Leicestershire. The forecast rain arrived, common sense prevailed and the shoot was shortened. Despite our juniors all shooting well Nottinghamshire were 4th overall, due to some very strong performances from the other counties. Henry won the trophy for the highest scoring boy. Well done.
While the juniors were away shooting for the county, 15 members turned up to shoot, despite the weather forecast. They got wet. Well done to everyone that finished the Summer Short Metric round, and to Liz who shot a short National.
Hopefully everyone will have dried out by now.
Wilford’s coaching team gets stronger
Congratulations to Mike Sanchez, who after lots of hard work, successfully passed his ArcheryGB level 2 coach assessment at the weekend.
Mike’s success brings more depth to our coaching team and will help members progress at all levels.
Wow!
following the County Championships at the weekend the Notts teams have been announced and many of our members have been selected.
For the Sydney Bond trophy on Sunday 26th July, Mimi, Sarah, Henry, Tobias and Oran will be representing Notts in the junior team. That’s five out of a team of eight!
For the Tri County match on 2nd August and the Thoresby Trophy on 6th September Sallie, Emma and Steve have been selected.
Once again Wilford have a strong presence in the County Teams.
Good shooting!
Medal haul at Notts champs
The Nottinghamshire County championships were held yesterday at Sherwood Archers ground in Southwell. Despite the rain showers and a tricky wind, most of us came away with medals and personal best performances.
Sallie was lady recurve champion for the second year, and Emma was third. Our junior members did very well, with Henry winning the junior gent overall trophy, and Mimi, Tobias, Sarah, Oran and Amber all wining medals in their age categories.
Mattia and Amber claimed their 1100 and 800 Rose badges (respectively) as well.
This was also the final selection shoot for the Nottinghamshire junior and senior teams, which will be announced in the next few days. Wilford will be well represented in both teams.
Six golds
Congratulations to Sarah, who got her six gold end badge last weekend at the East Midlands championships. Not to be outdone Alan got his six gold end badge this Sunday. Great shooting both of you.
Welbeck’s Rose
Eight members took part in Welbeck Archers’ Rose status York/Hereford/Bristols competition last Sunday, which was also a County team selection shoot. Fortunately the rain stopped just before we started shooting, but there was a tricky wind during most of the day.
Sallie was second lady recurve, with a personal best score. All our juniors did well.
The next selection shoot is the WA1440 at Sherwood Archers on 7th June.
Wilford Bowmen’s tournament is a great success.
We held our 67th Open Tournament last Sunday. Instead of the usual York/Hereford/Bristol rounds we ran a World Record status WA 1440 event to international standard, as a test event in preparation for the 2016 European Championships. The event was run in conjunction with ArcheryGB and Nottingham City Council.
There were large tents with chairs for the competitors, electronic timing and lights, live automated results using tablets for scoring (as well as the main paper version), with the results displayed on TV screens in the tents.
The weather was fairly kind, as the rain stayed away, but there was a stiff breeze at times. All went really smoothly, some good scores were achieved and there were a lot of claims for stars and six gold ends. As a club we did well, with Henry second and Tobias first for their age groups. Sallie was third lady recurve and Sallie, Emma and Steve won the recurve team trophy. The full results booklet is here Wilford WA1440 2015_CompleteResultsBooklet . There were 25 claims for stars and one six gold end badge.
There have been plenty of positive comments, both in person and by email, some of which are listed below. Well, done everybody.
